The 2024/25 season for Women’s football in South Wales promises to be the biggest yet, building on the greatly successful 2023/24 season.

43 teams in total are ready to compete across 4 divisions from the 1st September, 10 more teams than started last season.

Last season was hotly contested across the 3 divisions. The very exciting Combined League went down to the last weekend of the season with Newport City heading Penybont only on Goal difference. Similarly we saw Penydarren BGC heading Cambrian United only on goal difference in a fierce battle for Division 1 with Taffs Well involved throughout much of the season. Finally we saw Cwmbran Celtic FC take the top spot in Division 2 with a strong performance throughout the season.

With lots of new teams this year it’s all change for the SWWGL Women’s Divisions. 12 Teams will contest the Combined League, where many will fancy their chances of playing at the top of the table. Each team will play each other once before a league split at the halfway stage. After the split teams will play each other home and away for final league standings. For the remaining 31 teams, we see them split into 5 regional groups to decide placements for Divisions 1 to 3 that are sure to be very competitive when they also then play each other home and away.

With teams also playing across the Bute Energy Cup, SWFA Cup and SWWGL Cup over the season there is plenty of Womens football being played and we’re sure plenty of stories and rivalries to play out. Also good luck to Cambrian United, who have a wildcard entry to the Genaro Adran Trophy.

We’re proud of what is becoming of the SWWGL Women’s Divisions and the growth being made. This is giving more and more girls in South Wales a pathway to Women’s football and allowing them to play the game they love for longer. We can’t wait to see how it all plays out from Sunday 1st September. Good luck to everyone participating.
